Evaluations
What to expect on testing day
A sample morning, in order. Your psychologist adjusts it to you and tells you the plan beforehand.
People often worry most about the testing itself. It is a morning at a table with a psychologist, working through spoken and paper tasks, with rests whenever you need them. No one expects a perfect score on every task.
Bring your glasses, hearing aids and a list of your medicines
Eat breakfast as you usually do
A companion can wait in the lounge

In plain terms
What to know before you book
Who it helps
Anyone booked for a memory and thinking evaluation, and the person who will bring them.
What the morning is like
Check in, meet your psychologist, and begin. Tasks include remembering words, drawing, naming, and solving puzzles. Breaks come between them.
The method
The tasks are standardized, so your results can be compared with those of people of your age. Your psychologist explains each one in plain words.
What it is not
It is not a pass or fail exam, and it does not involve needles, scans or medicines.
Length and frequency
Plan on a morning. We tell you the start time and the expected finish before the day.
The fee is in your written estimate, and we check Medicare or plan coverage beforehand.
Questions about this visit
What if I get tired?
Say so. We stop for a rest, and we can move a task to the end of the morning.
Should I take my usual medicines?
Follow your own doctor's advice about your medicines. Bring the list so we know what you take.
Can I drive myself?
Most people can. If you would rather not, a companion can bring you and wait in the lounge.
